A Southern Compass just past the one-year milestone in May. There have been many ups and downs along the way but I feel like I’ve crossed some imaginary finish line just because I’ve made it this far. The road has not been easy and I’m learning new things every day but I enjoy a good challenge. Now, I’m sharing how I’ve learned 20 secrets to growing your website traffic.
Now, that I’ve made it through some of the first year growing pains, I’m starting to focus on some of the more technical parts of blogging so I can optimize the blog, the brand, and my website and reach my target audience. That’s where Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers comes into play.
This post is sponsored by Russel Brunson Traffic Secrets. All opinions are my own.

I started reading this book and worked through the Traffic Secrets 30 Day Challenge so I could really dig deep and define who I’m targeting, what needs my content has to fill, and how to optimize my content to deliver my audience what they are looking for. Sounds SO simple, right? HA! If you only knew! It’s hard! It’s so hard! I’ll be the first to admit – I started this blog on a whim one day. I just made a decision and bought a web domain. It’s not until now, a YEAR later, that I’m really sitting down and trying to digest – what am I doing here in this space and how does it provide value to others.
So, why Traffic Secrets? Why Russell Brunson? Glad you asked. Brunson is a Best-Selling Author & CEO of $100M software company ClickFunnels. He has built a following of over a million entrepreneurs, sold hundreds of thousands of copies of his books, and popularized the concept of sales funnels. In 2014, Russell and partner Todd Dickerson launched ClickFunnels, which became the fastest-growing non-venture backed software company in the world.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
- You have to define who your dream customer is! You have to know who you’re trying to sell to in order to determine the best way to sell to them. Each customer group is different. You may be putting out great content or sharing an amazing product but if it’s not reaching the right people – you won’t be successful. This is a challenging task – one that I’m still working to define, even after I’ve read the book.
- Once you’ve identified your dream customer, get out your magnifying glass because you’re about to become a detective. You have to get to know this audience. You need to know their likes, dislikes, fears, what motivates them, how they consume content, which platforms they’re on, etc. Russell really explains it best in this video.
- You need to become a fantastic storyteller. Marketing is all about hooking onto an emotion and creating a connection. That goes for people, products, brands – you name it. You’ve got to catch their attention and gain their trust by the story you’re telling. If they don’t believe you – they’re not buying.
These are a few of the more profound tips I took away from the challenge and the Traffic Secrets book. I’m actually headed back to the beginning to start again and rebuild my marketing strategy strictly using the principles outlined in Brunson’s book. I feel like it’s a really good time to pause and re-focus my efforts to ensure I’m investing my time and money in the right areas to amplify my chances of success with this blog.

You won’t catch me claiming to be an expert. I’m a beginner through and through and I’m here to learn from those, like Russell Brunson, who have the experience and expertise to help me navigate these tricky waters. If you have a business, I recommend reading this book. You can get it here. I also encourage you to complete the 30-day challenge, you’ll learn key strategies to increase your site traffic and it’ll really open your eyes to concepts and ideas of how to optimize your business strategy.
